Drop-side cribs no more permitted in U.S.

Decades of American kids used drop-side baby cribs during their babyhood, largely because mom and dad liked the low price and convenience of access to the child. That end has come to an official close, accounts the Associated Press. Since 2000, over thirty newborns and little ones have been killed by equipment malfunctions in drop-side cribs, and millions of units have been recalled over the years. This prompted the Consumer Product Safety Commission to prohibit drop-side cribs – and the vote was unanimous. Individuals may have to get a cash til payday loan to buy a higher level of quality and legal baby crib for their baby. Article resource – Drop-side cribs banned by U.S. government by MoneyBlogNewz.

Beginning in June 2011, anti drop-side cribs rule will begin

Private use of drop-side cribs can be prohibited soon. This includes childcare centers and hotels as well. Childcare centers will have one year from the official date of the June 2011 ban to purchase new, non-drop-side cribs.

The problem with drop-side cribs

Many like drop-side cribs better because they’re cheaper as they are made with cheaper wood and plastic than other cribs. Because of the design and cheap materials, there is often a hardware malfunction in these cribs. An infant or toddler's head can get caught in an opening made. Infant strangulation or suffocation has been the direct result for at least 32 United States infants and toddlers since 2000, and 14 more infant fatalities are believed to have been related to the drop-side crib flaw. It has been a while of the CPSC considering a drop-side crib ban. Now it has actually happened.

There are many companies within the drop-side crib recalls of 9 million from the past five years. Pottery Barn Children, Delta Enterprise Corp. and Evenflo are just some of the companies in the recall.

United States standards on drop-side cribs ‘one of the strongest within the world’

Inez Tenenbaum is the CPSC Chair. He said that as a result of the drop-side crib policy, the United States is considered one of the most stringent within the world on the matter. Some of the manufacturing defects can be caught in new testing standards. Now we know that all children can be safe pushing or shaking the cribs regardless how large or strong they are. Assembling the crib should be easier for parents also. This is as a result of better instructions being added. The standard will be able to "help to ensure that young kids rest more safely." After the CPSC vote, this is what Tenenbaum explained.
