Joe Miller files lawsuit and keeps AK U.S. Senate race drama proceeding

The Alaska Senate race drama has just been augmented with a Joe Miller lawsuit. The lawsuit is to try and keep any meaning from taking place in ballots that vote for a write-in candidate. Prior to Miller filing suit, Alaskan officials have said they’ll make sensible interpretations where appropriate. Joe Miller's lawsuit is to keep officials from having any interpretative leeway whatsoever.

Filing a lawsuit before counting the Alaska Senate race vote

Before the final count within the Alaska Senate race, Joe Miller has already filed for an injunction in Federal court. Lisa Murkowski is the incumbent running as a write-in, and the race will either go to her or Miller. The suit is about the Alaskan election law. USA Today reports that this is what Miller is suing over. The name has to be written in the write-in candidate spot when the oval has to be filled in, as outlined by Alaska law. The last name of the candidate has to be written. From time to time seems like differently on the ballot. Names of official write-in candidates must be displayed in the booth. He doesn't like the thought of discerning voter intent. He's trying to cut them off.

Famous court case brought up

Bush v. Gore is a Supreme Court case Miller talks about. This is the case that the 2000 election decided. Sarah Palin endorses Joe Miller in the Tea Party. He hopes to show that spelling the name of the candidate correctly is Alaskan law. Alaskan officials say that if there is a clear intention of who had been being voted for, the interpretation is allowed, as outlined by the Washington Post.

Waiting for final counting

Numerous have been watching the Alaska Senate race for the final vote. Within the 2010 election results, this race is watched closely. If Murkowksi wins, Sarah Palin's home state might be upset with all the Tea Party people in it. She will also make history on being a write-in candidate. There hasn't been an additional one since Strom Thurmond in 1954.
