Jon Stewart Rally to Restore Sanity a plea to modest majority

Sept 16 was the day that the statement came that dueling rallies were prepared out by Comedy Central’s Jon Steward and Colbert. The dueling events, scheduled for the National Mall on Oct. 30, satirize fellow comic Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally that happened in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Aug. Stewart announced the “Rally to Restore Sanity” on the Daily Show. The Colbert Report then showed the “March to Keep Fear Alive” which was announced by Stephen Colbert.

Stewart and Colbert respond to radical fringe in this way

It only took three weeks for Glenn Beck to get smacked within the face after his “Restoring Honor” rally held in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Stewart and Colbert made bulletins for their rallies then. CNN reports that Beck’s event was considered offensive due to its timing and location–the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered within the very same place. There were numerous logos and icons developed specifically to make fun of Beck for the Colbert/Stewart rallies. They used the exact same style of image and exact same fonts as Beck to do this. On October 30, a collect will happen on the Washington Monument grounds for Stewart and Colbert who got the permit for it, states the National Park Service.

According to Stewart, they’ll “Take it down a notch for America”

The bulk of Americans without extreme political views are also called “the 70 to 80 percenters.” These are the people interested in Stewarts’ Rally to Restore Sanity. The signs he wanted to use for the event said things such as “I disagree with you, but I’m pretty sure you are not Hitler” and “I am not afraid of Muslims/Tea Partiers/Socialists/Immigrants/Gun Owners/Gay…however I am scared of Spiders.” The Comedy Central host concluded by unfurling a sheet bearing the rally’s tagline: “Take it down a notch for The United States.”

” … freak out for freedom!” is what Colbert suggests

Colbert made a nice statement for many after. This announced the rally known as “The March to Keep Fear Alive” which is meant to help with Stewart’s. Colbert vowed “not take it down a notch.” Then he said something else. He said, “Now is the time for all good men to freak out for freedom!” As outlined by Time, Reddit.com was where all the talk about Colbert satirizing Beck began. A site was created by Reddit users for the event. This website is named after a Colbert catchphrase, “Restoring Truthiness”. Colbert is a board member of the organizations going through DonorsChoose.org, which got more than $100,000 donated to it in just one day of Restoring Truthiness.

Midterms have only had a moderate amount of rallying

By staging the rallies and entering the political debate, Stewart and Colbert just might influence the November midterm elections. The Atlantic reports through Marc Ambeinder that conservatives will not like the timing and message of these rallies. Glen Beck does not seem to have as numerous viewers on Fox News as the Daily Show and also the Colbert Report seem to have. This is because there are more young liberals around that like to fight than you will find old conservatives. As a result of the Tea Party, it seems like a lot of younger voters have tuned out politics totally, although Stewart and Colbert may be able to get lots of those voters more interested, says Ambeinder.
