Cook manages to lose hundreds of thousands to half-brother via embezzlement

Dane Cook’s half-brother, Darryl McCauley, has offered up a plea of guilty in a Massachusetts court for embezzling millions of dollars from the comedian/actor. The Boston Globe accounts that McCauley embezzled the money between 2004 and 2008 when working as Cook’s business manager. In total, Darryl McCauley faces 27 counts of larceny, three counts of forgery, embezzlement and a variety of other charges, said prosecutors. McCauley has been sentenced to five to six years in prison and could be on probation while imprisoned and 10 years thereafter.

$three million check originated from McCauley forged through Dane Cook’s accounts

The office of Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley told the Globe that Darryl McCauley transferred funds from Dane Cook’s accounts into his own on numerous occasions. Once, he even forged a $3 million check written from Cook’s account to himself. McCauley’s wife, Erika, is also facing criminal charges that consist of larceny and receiving stolen property, indicated the prosecution.

A long connection between McCauley and Cook

Darryl McCauley was Dane Cook’s business manager from the beginning of Cook’s comedy career in the early 1990s until Dec 2008, when Cook first noticed that something had been amiss financially. As part of his restitution to the 38-year-old Dane Cook, McCauley has been ordered by the court to give up ownership of various real estate properties and businesses in Massachusetts and Maine. All of the properties were technically owned by Cook. This is because stolen funds paid for the property.

Becoming an acting professional after being a comic

Standup comedy is how Dane Cook begun. That was how his career began. College students tend to say Cook is best comic as his humor is the very same as theirs. Of course, other comedians call him sophomoric as he is the competition. Speaking candidly, some have even gone so far as to call Dane Cook a “poseur.”. However, Cook’s act did manage to serve as his gateway into movie. He did well in romantic comedies as was shown in “Employee of the Month” with Jessica Simpson and “My Best Friend’s Girl” with Kate Hudson. In “Mr. Brooks,” he was able to play a serial killer which was an odd role for him
