Murder charges for hiccup girl Jennifer Mee

Jennifer Mee, a former media sensation due to her continuous hiccups which earned her the nickname the “Hiccup Girl,” has been imprisoned on allegations of first degree murder. Mee, 19, was charged along with two other individuals, of robbing a man at gunpoint and murdering him. Mee became an overnight sensation a couple of years previous to this incident, suffering from a constant bout of hiccups that lasted for weeks. She went on numerous Television programs such as the “Today Show.” She also became quite popular on the web.

Jennifer Mee charged with murder

MSNBC reports that Jennifer Mee got arrested in Florida because there were charges of first degree murder, that two others were being charged with also, that she had been a suspect in. It is alleged that Mee, 19, along with Laron Raiford, 20, and Lamont Newton, 22, lured Shannon Griffin to an undisclosed location. Raiford and Newton robbed him at gunpoint. They took all his stuff and then got in a fight with him. This led to him being shot in his upper torso several times. All three have admitted to being involved with the crime. Any accomplice due to the felony murder statute, which is what Mee and her friends are being charged under, will end up held accountable for the murder too. Being convicted might be bad for them. They might end up with the death penalty as the punishment.

Several know her as ‘Hiccup Girl’

Jennifer Mee is pretty well known nationally. “The Hiccup Girl” is her nickname. For Jennifer Mee, hiccups went on for more than five weeks consistently. She would hiccup up to 50 times a minute each day, which eventually attracted media attention. She had been featured on the “Today Show” among others in 2007, coming to national prominence. WTSP News in Tampa explains that she talked to specialists who said that it was just Tourette’s Syndrome. The medication for Tourette’s helped her. She seemed cured.

Litigation shortly

The three defendants are being kept without bail. This had been after they all admit to the crime. Being convicted could mean the death penalty for all three. This is what being charged under the felony homicide statute means. At least a life sentence will be what they face without a parole possibility. This is if felony homicide is what they are convicted of.
