As a joke, Duke alumna Karen Owen created a second “thesis”. This “harmless” Powerpoint presentation, though, has proven anything but. Karen Owen’s thesis (the fake one, anyway) laid out, in detail, her sexual conquests. Intended just for friends, Karen Owen’s Powerpoint went viral — with heavy collateral damage.

Karen Owen made a Powerpoint of sexual conquests for her project which had “Just for fun” as its title. The PowerPoint showed each pairing she had been in. This is what the Duke student did. The PowerPoint was spread amongst Karen Owen’s friends only at first. Everyone at Duke knew about the Powerpoint fairly quickly. Next it went all around the world to many people. The PowerPoint made its way through the web very easily. It had been really popular as people knew it had been about a college student. Though it was never intended for a wider audience, the Powerpoint presentation has been downloaded more than 2 million times – a growth rate not even no no fax payday loans no credit check stores can match.

It was just a couple of short years ago the private life of Duke became international news. The lacrosse team was charged with sex crimes which had been cleared later on. This was when the college’s private life became news to everyone. The new PowerPoint by Karen Owen has reignited a discussion of the promiscuity of college students at Duke. The attention Duke gets is abnormal. This is only because of the students though. Some say it isn’t just the students, and that it is the college culture.

Every person thinks it had been a bad decision for Karen Owen to make this Powerpoint. Of course, other things are a bigger concern right now. No names were redacted with the Duke Powerpoint which was first posted by Jezebel. Karen Owen, also as various of the named students, questioned the journalistic responsibility of this move.
