James Jones to resign as National Security Advisor

The retirement of National Security Advisor James Jones had been just announced. He can be exchanged by Tom Donilon, the Deputy National Security Advisor. Officials have been leaving the Obama administration at a seemingly high rate. Perhaps most surprising was the announcement that Rahm Emanuel would leave as Chief of Staff to run for Mayor of Chicago. There is also a rumored replacement of Joe Biden with Hillary Clinton.

Finally retiring is James Jones

There was a recent announcement about James Jones. He could be retiring. The plan was shown by the Los Angeles Times. He plans to serve until October is over. Jones will be exchanged by Tom Donilon, the Deputy National Security Advisor. Experience is something Donilon has. He held the position of chief of staff under Warren Christopher. Christopher worked under President Clinton as Secretary of State. He then worked for Obama as the 3rd president to work under. Since General James Jones had already had a long career, he only planned on working for two years. Jones was formerly the Marine Corps Commandant and commander of NATO. Jones didn’t even want the position of National Security Advisor. The Afghan surge strategy happening right was also something he had been a chief architect for.

All the officials going away

The Obama administration has seen officials in top spots leave at a high rate over the past few months, as outlined by CNN. Mayor of Chicago is what Rahm Emanuel hopes to get the spot as. Mayor Daley is retiring which is a great opportunity. Others to leave contain advisor David Axelrod and economic adviser Larry Summers. Joe Biden may be stepping down too if the rumors are true. Rampant speculation has begun that President Obama will replace him with Hillary Clinton before the 2012 election, though the White House denies it so far.

White House seems to like musical chairs now

Seems like like all the White House staff are disappearing. They all keep leaving. It hasn’t been decided if this can be a coincidence. It probably isn’t. There have been other presidents that had large comings and goings of staff before.
